About the Client
Instituto del Ambiente is a Government-owned institute in the Dominican Republic that teaches young adults about environmental preservation and forest management. As a volunteer in the Dominican Republic, I taught English to the students and started working on this project to represent the institute and its goals nationwide.
Technical Details
I was pretty independent regarding design, technologies, and content management, so I decided to use Jekyll and the Forestry CMS to approach this project. It was my first JAMStack project, so naturally, I underwent a trial and error phase during development. Finally, after some time spent learning and troubleshooting, I came up with a pretty solid architecture and launched the site in spring 2018.
The project is built with modern web technologies such as Flexbox and ECMAScript 2015, hosted on the Netlify CDN. Another great learning experience I had was my first use of the Atomic CSS approach with the Tailwind CSS framework.
Due to my ending contract at the end of the school year, I had no time to finish the project. I handed over the codebase to my successor, who still manages it today.
